Bhubaneswar: Expressing concern over the rise in domestic violence cases in Odisha during the lockdown, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday directed the Director General of Police (DGP) to book the habitual offenders and provide necessary assistance to the complainants.

The CM gave the directive during a review meeting on COVID-19 with senior state and police officials via video conferencing at Naveen Niwas.

The CM also asked the DGP to ensure that farmers do not face any difficulty in their agriculture activities and transportation of their produce.

On the steps to prevent the spread of the virus, Naveen told the chief secretary to provide adequate training to the police officers and government officials who are monitoring the situation.

He also told the chief secretary to take necessary steps to set up COVID hospitals in each district within a week.

Expressing satisfaction over the commencement of the COVID-19 tests at MKCG Medical College and Hospital in south Odisha, he directed the departments concerned to ensure that testing facility should be commenced at Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) by April 16.

The officials of the Health and Family Welfare Department apprised Naveen of the commencement of COVID-19 test at Ispat General Hospital (IGH) in Rourkela.

The CM thanked doctors, the health staff, civic body staff, local administration and police for their concerted efforts to prevent the spread of the virus.
