Books In Odia Language Set To Be Ready By March For These Courses

Bhubaneswar: Odia language books for BTech and diploma engineering programmes are set to be ready by the end of March. The books will Initially be published for the first year.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) the Institute of Odia Studies and Research (IOSR) for the preparation of these translated books to begin BTech and diploma programmes in Odia language from academic session 2022-23.

Nine engineering books are being translated in Odia for the first year of the BTech course while 11 books will be prepared for first-year diploma courses. The translation work kicked off in November 2021.

“Many talented and experienced retired professors are involved in the work to develop good Odia books for engineering courses. We have set a target to complete the project by the end of March,” secretary of the project monitoring committee and member secretary of IOSR, Subrat Kumar Prusty, was quoted as saying by The Times of India.

“Some terminologies will have both English and Odia names in the books for better understanding of students. We have framed a guideline for the translation of engineering books in Odia language. Experts will follow it while translating the books,” added Prusty.

According to him, the translation of second-year books of these courses has already started. “We will translate 42 books for BTech second year and 46 for diploma the second year. The work is underway,” Prusty said.

The AICTE is set to invite applications from universities and colleges interested to introduce engineering courses in the Odia language in March.
