Puri: Tension prevailed at Balighat Chhak in Puri district on Wednesday following the death of a minor boy, who drowned in a drain.
The deceased has been identified as Ganesh Nayak (7), a resident of Gopalpur village in the district.
A group of irate locals staged a blockade at Balighat Chhak by burning tyres, seeking adequate compensation for the bereaved family.
The agitators alleged that the child fell into the drain as it was kept open by the local municipality officials.
They withdrew the protest after police reached the spot and assured them that their demand would be looked into.
According to available information, Ganesh went missing last evening, following which his family members searched for him but could not trace him.
The child’s body was later spotted in the drain by some locals.
