Nayagarh: In a gruesome incident, the body of a minor boy allegedly killed by his schoolmates was found in an abandoned tank at a village in Ranpur area of Odisha’s Nayagarh district.
As per information, the body was found in a tank near a Madrasa at Nilapalli village under the jurisdiction of Ranpur police station of the district on Friday.
Investigation by the police revealed that the minor, who hailed from Cuttack and studied in the Madrasa, was sodomised before being killed and dumped.
Sources said the boy was strangled to death by his schoolmates after being subjected to ‘unnatural’ sexual assault. Based on the findings of the probe, five juveniles have been apprehended by the police and sent to a correctional home in connection with the incident.
A senior police official said that the victim had been repeatedly assaulted by one of his schoolmates. The same student along with three others, assaulted the victim on September 2. They allegedly strangled the boy to death and dumped his body in the tank.
Investigation showed that two juveniles were involved in the act of sodomy, while three others assisted in the murder. All five were taken into custody and produced before the Court, police said.
Police registered a case under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) on September 3 after gathering sufficient evidence linking the accused to the incident. The juveniles, identified as children in conflict with the law, have been shifted to a juvenile correctional facility.
