Khurda: A 14-year-old boy was killed and his mother critically injured after being attacked by a wild elephant at a village in Odisha’s Khurda district on Monday.
As per sources, the incident took place at Mahatpalli village under Nandapur Panchayat of the district early in the morning. The deceased was identified as Satya Martha, while his mother Sulochana Martha has been admitted to hospital for treatment.
The wild elephant mounted an attack when Sulochana had gone out to attend nature’s call. As the woman raised an alarm, rushed to save her. However, the pachyderm trampled Satya inflicting critical injuries.
Local residents rescued the two and rushed them to the District Headquarters Hospital in Khurda where Satya was declared dead by doctors. Sulochana is undergoing treatment.
A team of forest officials visited the site and initiated the process to offer compensation to the affected family as per the standard protocols.
