Jagatsinghpur: The boyfriend of a nurse and five others were detained on charges of murdering her and then dumping her body in a river. The six were detained a day after police found the body of the nurse, Niharika Patra, in Biluakhai river near Biridi in Jagatsinghpur district.

Police said Niharika was a resident of Bhingarpur village near Bhubaneswar and worked as a nurse at a private nursing home in Cuttack.

Asit Kumar Parija, manager of the nursing home, told the media on Wednesday that the nurse’s boyfriend, Kishore Chandra Anchal alias Raja, had picked her up on his bike on Sunday afternoon. This was recorded on the CCTV at the entrance of the nursing home.

Niharika went missing after that. Her family tried to contact her, but her mobile phone was switched off. Later, they lodged a complaint at Madhupatna police station.

During the course of their investigation, police found Niharika’s body stuffed inside a sack in Biluakhai river on Tuesday afternoon. On the basis of the CCTV footage, police detained Kishore for interrogation the same day. Later, they detained his father and four friends. Their interrogation is underway, police said.
