Brahmapur: Union Railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Monday evening flagged off the Brahmapur-Surat (Udhna) Amrit Bharat Express as a daily service.
He also announced a new train service for north Odisha. Chief Minister Mohan Chara
n Majhi was also present on the occasion.
Vaishnaw said launch of the daily Amrit Bharat Express fulfils a long-standing assurance to people of Brahmapur. It will help passengers avail of regular and affordable connectivity to Surat and Gujarat.
The service will particularly benefit migrant workers, students and families travelling between Odisha and Gujarat.
On future plans, the Railway minister said the upcoming train for north Odisha will be part of Railways’ plan for focused attention on that region to address its connectivity needs, just as services have been expanded across western, southern and coastal parts of the state.
Vaishnaw reaffirmed the Central government’s commitment to Odisha, and said that efforts are underway to expand the railway network across the state in a way that ensures balanced regional development and improved passenger services.
