Bhubaneswar: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and youth leader Kanhaiya Kumar will campaign for Congress candidate Kishore Chandra Patel in byelection to Brajrajnagar Assembly seat in Jharsuguda district.
The Congress released its list of 40 star campaigners for the bypoll in the constituency of western Odisha. Besides Baghel and Kanhaiya, several senior and prominent leaders and MLAs of the state figure in the list.
Odisha in-charge A Chellakumar, OPCC president Niranjan Patnaik, Kantabanji MLA Santosh Singh Saluja, former OPCC president Sarat Patnaik, former OPCC president Jayadev Jena, Barabati-Cuttack MLA Mohammed Moquim, Balangir MLA Narasingha Mishra, Jeypore MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati and Jatni MLA Suresh Kumar Routray will also participate in the campaign.
While ruling BJD has fielded Alka Mohanty, the wife of deceased MLA from the seat Kishore Kumar Mohanty, BJP has announced the name of former Brajrajnagar MLA Radharani Panda as its candidate and Congress nominee is former Assembly Speaker Kishore Chandra Patel.
As per the notification of the State Election Commission, the bypoll will be held on May 31 and the results will be declared after counting of votes on June 3.
The byelection was necessitated following the death of Mohanty due to heart attack on December 30, 2021.
