Bhubaneswar: Voting for the Brajrajnagar bypoll will be webcast live at 50% booths and videography will be conducted at several other booths, said Chief Electoral Officer Sushil Kumar Lohani here on Friday.
Addressing media persons, Lohani said 2,14,878 voters will exercise their franchise at 279 booths for the by-election scheduled on May 31. A total of 11 candidates will be contesting the elections after withdrawal of three nominations, he added.
Informing about the addition of new voters, the CEO said from the date of announcement of byelection till the last day of nomination, 133 new voters were added. The final voters’ list was published after adding them, he added.
On the other hand, 325 voters are eligible to cast their votes through postal ballot and those votes will be counted if they are received before 8 am on the date of counting.
Lohani informed that 1396 polling personnel will be officiating the polls for which 319 ballot units, 319 control units and 419 VVPATs are available. The polling teams will leave for their destinations from Jharsuguda Engineering School which is the collection centre and also the strong room, he added.
Strict enforcement measures have been adopted by both police and excise department after the announcement of polls, several arms and liquor have been seized and pending non-bailable warrants (NBWs) executed, he said.
Three companies of central paramilitary force will be deployed and a helpline number 1950 has also been issued for the assistance of citizens. A total of 61 micro observers will be deployed for the bypoll.
The Brajrajnagar Assembly seat fell vacant on December 31, last year after the death of Kishore Mohanty. The voting for the bypoll is to be held on May 31, 2022. The polling will be held between 7 am to 6 pm and counting of votes and declaration of results will be on June 3.
