Nabarangpur: A nine-month-old baby died after being allegedly branded with a hot iron to cure his illness at Jadapara village in Odisha’s Nabarangpur district.
According to media reports, the boy, Rupesh, son of Sukdeb Gond, was suffering from cold and fever. An ASHA worker, Sahanti Gond, visited their house on Tuesday and advised the family to take the child to hospital.
According to the reports, instead of taking the boy to hospital, the family called a woman who allegedly branded Rupesh with a hot iron in order to cure him.
He was rushed to the Hatabharandi Community Health Centre in a critical condition. His family, however, allegedly took him home on Thursday against the doctor’s advice, according to the reports. The doctor has lodged an FIR in this regard.
The boy was allegedly again branded with a hot iron. He died on Friday.
