London: It was a tragedy of immense proportions.
Accidents can and do happen. But the manner in which Brazilian rock singer Ayres Sasaki lost his life has few parallels.
The 35-year-old singer was performing at a live concert in Salinopolis, located in the Brazilian state of Para, when he was electrocuted.
The terrible tragedy took place at Solar Hotel on July 13, as reported by Brazilian news site Istoé Gente, The Sun and The Mirror.
Sasaki hugged a wet soaking-wet fan at the concert who had come up on stage and got electrocuted, leading to his instant death. The contact with the person from the audience apparently triggered a malfunction in a nearby cable, causing a fatal electric shock to the singer.
Attempts were made to revive Sasaki, who collapsed on stage, but there was no response. He is survived by wife Mariana, whom he married last August.
Salinopolis Police are investigating the incident, with questions being raised as to why the fan was wet.
Witnesses are being questioned and views of experts sought by the authorities, reported Istoé Gente.
The Solar Hotel, venue of the concert, is fully cooperating in the investigation.
Sasaki’s aunt Rita Matos said the family will release a statement to the press.
“We are contacting people who were with him at that moment to understand how everything happened. We will gather all the information in a statement that we will release to the press,” Matos was quoted as saying by People magazine.
