Bhubaneswar: Nearly two months after the sensational parcel gift blast in Patnagarh in Odisha’s Balangir district, Director General of Police (DGP) Dr RP Sharma on Friday asserted that the police will get a breakthrough in the case very soon.
The DGP, who for the first time gave a statement on this case, said that the investigation is underway under the direct supervision of the Crime Branch IG Arun Bothra.
“Police has got some vital clues in course of its investigation and would get a breakthrough soon,” he added.
While bridegroom Soumya Sekhar Sahu and his grandmother Jemamani were killed, the bride, Rimarani Sahu, sustained severe burn injuries in the explosion.
The incident had occurred on February 23.
Rimarani, who was recently discharged from the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, had urged Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for a thorough probe into the incident and the immediate arrest of the assailant.
Taking the matter seriously, the chief minister had later ordered a Crime Branch probe into the incident. A four-member special investigation team (SIT) of the Crime Branch had gone to Patnagarh to probe into the incident. Though team made trips to Raipur in Chhattisgarh and later to some areas in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, it is yet to zero in on the assailant so far.
However, the statement by the DGP indicates that the police has got a lead in the case.
