Bhubaneswar: The CBI on Wednesday arrested an Assistant Revenue Inspector (RI) and a manager of Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL), Talcher, while allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from a complainant.
According to CBI sources, the complainant had alleged that the duo had demanded Rs 1 lakh from him for releasing the compensation amount of Rs 5,78,000 against his land acquired by the MCL. They had asked him to pay Rs.70,000 in the first instalment and the balance amount after the release of compensation.
After negotiations, the accused finally agreed on Rs 70,000, of which Rs 20,000 was to be paid in the first installment.
After they were caught red-handed accepting the bribe, the CBI conducted searches at their offices and residence and receovered incriminating documents and articles
The arrested will be produced before the Special Judge for CBI cases, Bhubaneswar, the sources added.
