Bridge Collapses Due To Heavy Rainfall In Nayagarh, Over 20,000 People Affected

Nayagarh: A bridge on Dahuka river in Dhuanbari under Nuagaon block of Nayagarh district collapsed due to heavy rains on Friday night. The incident disrupted road communication between three panchayats in the district.

More than 20, 000 persons residing in three panchayats have been affected following the incident.

The collapse is most likely to have been caused by overflowing of the river. However, no casualties have been reported.

The residents claimed that the structure was in a bad condition since five years. The district administration did not take any step to repair it.

“There is no chance that the road will be opened soon. The construction work for another bridge, which was started before three years near this place to facilitate vehicular movement in the area is yet to be completed. This clearly indicates the negligence, carelessness and irresponsible attitude of the district officials,” a villager said.
