Bhubaneswar: The Centre has agreed to widen the existing bridge on Gangua Nullah at Palasuni into six lanes to mitigate traffic jam issues in Bhubaneswar.
Taking to her X handle, Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi on Wednesday informed about the in-principle approval to the Rs 50 crore worth project following her meeting with Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari. “Had met him today in Delhi and requested him to help me,” she wrote, expressing her gratitude to Gadkari.
The road over the Gangua Nullah has four lanes and addition of two extra lanes on either side, spanning 240 metres, will significantly improve traffic flow and reduce congestion in the area.
This comes a week after Aparajita inaugurated the much-awaited foot over bridge (FOB) near Palasuni, which had seen more than 200 accidents and loss of several lives in the last few years. The MP had got the approval for the project in July last year and Rs 3 crore was sanctioned for it.
Aparajita had then informed that one more over bridge will be built at Tankapani-Sai Mandir Square to avoid congestion and another near SUM Hospital at Nakhara.
Notably, the water resources department, in collaboration with Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) and Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) is also devising a comprehensive rejuvenation plan for Gangua Nullah.
