New Delhi: A British woman on a visit to India alleged that she was raped by a man whom she befriended on social media at a Delhi hotel. Not just that, the woman also alleged that she was molested by another person in the hotel lift when she asked for help. According to reports quoting police sources, both the accused were arrested.
The incident took place in south-west Delhi’s Mahipalpur area. According to police, the woman started conversing regularly with the accused on social media and later decided to visit India to meet him.
She had booked a hotel room in Mahipalpur, near the Indira Gandhi International Airport, after landing in India. The accused reportedly went to meet the woman at the hotel on Tuesday. But the duo reportedly had a heated argument after the British woman sensed that the accused was trying to act inappropriately.
The accused then allegedly raped her. The woman reportedly managed to reach the hotel reception and raise an alarm. The police authorities have informed the British High Commission about the incident, an India Today report claimed. An investigation has been launched.
“A man was arrested on charges of rape with a British woman in a Mahipalpur hotel in Delhi. His accomplice was arrested on charges of molestation. The woman who was friends with the man through social media had come to Delhi from the UK to meet him,” Delhi Police said, as quoted by India Today.
