Bronze Bust Of Martyr Capt Ashutosh Unveiled On Bhubaneswar’s Sainik School Premises

Bhubaneswar: The bust of the martyr, Captain Ashutosh Kumar was unveiled by his parents Rabindra Bharati and Geeta Devi at Sainik School premises here.

Principal, Sainik School, Group Capt S Dominic Rayan, took all steps to make the event a special one for the parents. He said the bust of Capt Ashutosh will keep inspiring the cadets of the school.

Administrative Officer Cdr Pritika Sharma and Cdr Usha Sangwan made all the necessary arrangements. Sisters of Captain Ashutosh, Khushboo Kumari and Anshu Kumari, Brigadier Vignesh Mahanti, Vice Prinicpal, Officials of the OBA, and the classmates of the Martyr were also present.

Born on October 15, 1996, Captain Ashutosh hailed from Parmanpur village of Madhepura district in Bihar, pursued education from Sainik School Bhubaneswar.

In Nov 2020, 18 Madras Regiment was deployed in Kupwara district. The unit was engaged in Counter-Insurgency and on November 8, 2020, Captain Ashutosh’s unit undertook operations to check the infiltration bids as its AOR (Area of Responsibility) was prone to infiltration by the militants from across the border.

Captain Ashutosh along with his team, swung into action to foil the infiltration bid and neutralise the militants. Captain Ashutosh Kumar deployed his troops tactically to block the possible escape routes and engaged them aggressively. In the ensuing fierce gun battle, three militants were eliminated. However, during the exchange of fire, Captain Ashutosh and four of his comrades received gunshots and were seriously injured. Later, Captain Ashutosh Kumar along with Havildar Praveen Kumar along with Rifleman Ryada Maheshwar succumbed to their injuries and were martyred.
