Bhubaneswar: The Special Task Force of Odisha Crime Branch on Saturday seized brown sugar worth more than Rs 1 crore and arrested one person in Khurda district.
As per reports, the accused, identified as Suresh Mohapatra of Khurda, had come to make a deal for sale of the brown sugar in Baghamari of the district.
On getting the information, an STF team conducted a raid on the house where the deal was going on and nabbed Mohapatra. During search, the STF sleuths found the brown sugar weighing 1100 gram in possession of Mohapatra.
The STF seized the brown sugar and arrested Mohapatra. The preliminary investigation by the Crime Branch during questioning of the accused revealed that he used to procure the brown sugar from Murshidabad in West Bengal. He was supplying to different districts through his agents who were paid for the services, the sources said.
