Balasore: Two brothers, who were carrying out drug smuggling in the district, were arrested and one kg of brown sugar worth more than Rs 1 crore seized from them on Tuesday.
Following intelligence inputs about the brothers, a Special Task Force (STF) team of the Odisha Crime Branch conducted raids on busy Nuabazar and Ranipatna vegetable markets in Balasore. During search, brown sugar weighing 1.05 kg and other incriminating materials were recovered from the possession of Ashok Yadav and Suraj Yadav.
The STF team had kept a close watch on the two accused brothers who are allegedly involved in drug peddling in the area for last few years. The STF has registered a case under sections 21 (C) and 29 of the NDPS Act, 1985.
Following their arrest, Ashok and Suraj have been forwarded to the court and further investigation is on.
