Bhubaneswar: Four peddlers were arrested with 978 gm of brown sugar worth nearly Rs 1 crore from Uttara Chhak, on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar, by Pipili Police on Saturday morning.
Those arrested have been identified as Murashid Khan alias Juma, Imran Sha and Jabid Sha of Narsinghpur under Pipili police limits, Sheikh Shajid Ali of Sunahata under Balasore Town police limits and a minor boy. They were nabbed near Ram temple on Canal Road at Uttara. A motorcycle, a scooter and Rs 3,500 in cash were also seized from their possession.
While a case under Section 21 (c) and 29 of NDPS Act has been registered, police said that the crackdowns on drug smugglers will be intensified in Puri district in the coming days.
