Cuttack: In a major breakthrough, the Cuttack Commissionerate Police on Monday seized over 1 kg of brown sugar in Millennium City and arrested six persons.
Talking to mediapersons, Commissioner of Police (CP) Soumendra Priyadarshi said a joint team of Lalbag Police and the Special Squad police arrested the six accused and seized 1.159 kg of brown sugar worth over Rs 1 crore from their possession.
Of the six accused, four are from Jagatsinghpur, one from Cuttack and the other from Puri district, he said.
The CP further said that the accused, used to bring the brown sugar and from Jaleswar in Balasore district and sell them in the coastal districts of Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Bhubaneswar and Puri.
He said 4.280 kg of brown sugar have been seized in Cuttack city in the last five months and more than 6 kg in the twin cities during this period.
“The Commissionerate Police are on a mission to free the twin cities of drugs,” Priyadarshi said, adding that the interrogation of the six accused is underway to ascertain their links with the drug cartels and the supply chain.
