Bhubaneswar: The Special Task Force (STF) of Odisha Crime Branch seized brown sugar worth Rs 1 crore here and arrested a peddler late on Friday.
Sk Hasim Bux, a native of Sheikhpal in Jhadeswarpur under Jaleswar police limits in Balasore district, was nabbed with 1.170 kg of the contraband during a raid near Baramunda Bus stand in the Odisha capital.
Additional Director General (ADG) of Police (crime branch and law & order) Soumendra Priyadarshi told the media that Bux was nabbed on outskirts of Bhubaneswar, on the basis of intelligence input.
A case has been registered under section 21(c)29 NDPS Act, 1985, he added.
Following a sustained drive against illegal trade of narcotic drugs, the STF has arrested 44 drug peddlers and seized 22.168 kg of brown sugar since January 1, 2020.
