Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police seized brown sugar worth around Rs 15 lakh and arrested two persons in this connection in Bhubaneswar on Friday.
According to police sources, the Special Crime Unit of Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Police Commissionerate received information about the two persons having the brown sugar. They prepared meticulous plan and started a surveillance operation on the suspects.
The Special Crime team tracked the suspects and intercepted them near Pokhariput-Sundarpada underpass in the city where the latter had gone to deliver the consignment of brown sugar to a woman of the locality.
On checking the two persons, the police seized 150 gram of brown sugar from their possession. The police said the seized brown sugar, which was estimated to cost Rs 15 lakh, was a significant quantity for distribution in the city.
The arrested persons were identified as Sk Chand and Ram Soren of Arada Bazar under Sahadeb Khunta police limits in Balasore district. Police also seized two mobile phones and a bike from their possession.
The police were questioning the arrested drug peddlers to know details about their operations and connections. Chand and Soren will be presented before the court following the questioning, the sources said.
