Cuttack: The flying squad of excise department seized 45
grams of brown sugar from Jobra area in Cuttack on Tuesday. A person identified Basistha Pradhan has been arrested in connection with the case.
Acting upon a tip-off that the contraband was being smuggled
in a Bolero, the excise team intercepted the vehicle and seized the brown sugar which is worth around Rs 4.50 lakh. Liquor bottles worth Rs 1.80 lakh were also seized.
According to an excise official, the accused used to supply the
contraband to students of Jobra engineering college. Investigations have begun to ascertain the root of the peddling racket.
