Cuttack: The Central Excise sleuths on Monday seized 55 grams of brown sugar from Badambadi bus stand here and arrested a person in this connection.
The accused has been identified as Dillip Behera (20), a resident of Haladipadia area under Laxmisagar police limits in Bhubaneswar.
According to sources, Behera was attempting to smuggle the consignment in a bus named ‘Nirmaly’ when the excise officials nabbed him in Cuttack. The brown sugar was reportedly brought by the accused from Jaleswar in Balasore district.
The estimated cost of the seized brown sugar is around Rs 5.5 lakh.
Drug peddling at Haladipadia slum goes unabated as similar seizure have been made on several occasions from the locality in the recent past.
Earlier on March 31, brown sugar weighing 30 grams, four mobile phones and cash to the tune of Rs 2, 490 were recovered from two persons, Ajit Bepar and Sonu Khan.
