Brown Sugar Worth Rs 50 Lakh Seized, 2 Held

Cuttack:  In a major haul, the Excise official seized 450 grams of brown sugar worth Rs 50 lakh from a car and arrested two persons in the city here on Tuesday afternoon.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of Excise officials intercepted the car near Mahanadi river bridge in Shikharpur area and seized the brown sugar and arrested two persons.

The arrested have been identified as Mahesh Parida, former tax collector of Khurda Municipality, and Chandan Behera.

Excise sources said the duo was on the way to Bhubaneswar after collecting brown sugar from Jaleswar area in Balasore district.
