In a unique initiative, Odisha Ecotourism Foundation and the District Administration jointly kicked off Know Your City – Puri (My City , My Future) a programme in which the students of various schools went on a bicycle tour of the city to get an on site experience of the past, present and future of the holy city from experts.
The first batch of 50 students from Biswambhar Bidyapitha started from the tourist office at 8.30 am on Sunday for the half day tour. Among the important sites the students visited were Govardhan Peetha, Bauli Matha, Bharat Sevashrama, Bidur Matha and Kabir Matha. All the areas were covered under various topics such as Secular and Spiritual Puri, Clean Puri , Future projects like Blue Flag Beach, Heritage Corridor, tourism and pilgrimage services etc. The students also interacted with senior officials from the government including the DM.
The Collector interacted with the participating students at Panthanivas. “The purpose of introducing this programme is to help our next generation leaders to be aware about their city and existing heritage monuments besides various redevelopment and beautification activities being undertaken in the pilgrim city. This initiative will help in instilling a sense of ownership and responsibility among the millennials,” said Puri Collector Balwant Singh.
These tours will be organised every Sunday.
