Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Smart City Ltd (BSCL) has decided to start operation of the two multi-storey parking lots in Odisha capital soon.
The decision was taken at a high-level meeting chaired by managing director of BSCL Sanjay Singh in Bhubaneswar on Saturday. The meeting, attended by commissioner of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Vijay Amrit Kulange and other senior officers, decided that the BSCL will invite request for proposal (RFP) from interested parties to operate the parking facilities.
After selection of the operators from the RFPs, the two parking lots will be opened to use by the public. While one parking lot is located in Sahid Nagar, the other is situated in front of the Market Building in Unit II. Both facilities are targeted to be opened on August 31.
The construction work of the Sahid Nagar parking lot on 0.734 acre area was started in 2017. The 7-storey structure has two floors in the basement and the rest on the ground. Its three floors will be used for parking of around 250 cars. The rest part of the building will be allotted for commercial purposes. It is expected to ease the traffic congestion in Sahid Nagar and Rupali Square areas which are dotted with shops and other commercial establishments.
Similarly, the parking lot in front of the Market Building in Unit II has come up in an area of around 0.946 acre. It has also 7 floors with 2 floors as basement. It has the facility to park around 450 cars. The people coming to the Market Building and daily haat in Unit I in front of it can use the facility for parking their vehicles.
The BMC informed about opening of the parking facilities in a tweet on Sunday.
