Malkangiri: Further expanding its deployment in Maoist-affected areas of Odisha’s Malkangiri, the Border Security Force (BSF) on Sundah established a new Coy Operating Base in Tulasi Dongri region of the district.

The new Coy Operating Base, named as COBTulasi, is close to Chhattisgarh border. It will function under the overall responsibility of 02 Bn BSF, a press release said.

The area of Tulasi Dongri Reserve Forest has been a safe haven for the Maoists since long due to its topographic remoteness and dense forest coverage.

Of late, BSF established six COBs encircling Tulasi Reserve Forest area and have been carrying out calibrated and effective domination to curb naxalism in this region.

Since its deployment in Malkangiri in 2010, BSF has been operating actively in the area and successfully countering the Maoists strategy for the safety and security of the public in the interior pockets and remote localities of the district. After the deployment of BSF, every developmental work in the area is progressively going on to facilitate the locals.

Deputy Inspector General, BSF Malkangiri Sector, Shailendra Kumar Sinha inaugurated COB Tulasi in presence of  Commandant 02 Bn BSF Manoj Karki and Malkangiri SP Nitesh Wadhwani.

A large crowd from nearby villages namely Tulasi, Cherkotla, Kirmiti, Gogapadar, Kotapadar and Daldali gathered near the newly established base and welcomed BSF troops warm heartedly.

A feast was organised at the venue by BSF for all the villagers on this occasion. During this event, clothes, medicines and other daily necessities were also distributed among the locals.

Establishment of COB-Tulasi in the interior pockets of Odisha-Chhattisgarh is a milestone to execute various developmental works, providing government aids to the locals and to sanitise the area from the grip of Maoists and their activities for the gross benefits of the inhabitants in this region.
