Bhubaneswar: A Border Security Force (BSF) jawan from Odisha reportedly died under mysterious circumstances in Meghalaya, where he was posted.
The jawan has been identified as Pratap Ranjan Parida of Malla village of Badatara Panchayat under Gop block of Puri district.
According to sources, the family members of Parida were informed about his death by the BSF officials. They were told that Parida was proceeding towards a ghat his camp when he fell into a roadside ditch and died.
While mystery surrounded the death of the jawan, a pall of gloom descended on the village as the news broke.
Villagers said the elder brother of the deceased jawan is working with the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) while his younger brother had died in a road mishap two years ago.
The mortal remains of Parida will be flown from Meghalaya to Bhubaneswar on Sunday evening and then sent to his native place.
