Malkangiri: A major disaster was averted as the jawans of Border Security Force (BSF) recovered explosive devices allegedly planted by Maoists in a forest in Odisha’s Malkangiri district on Tuesday.
According to sources, the explosive devices were randomly placed beneath the ground reportedly by Maoists to target the security forces carrying out anti-naxal operations in the area. The ultras reportedly wanted to cause extensive damage.
The explosives were recovered from Kamarguda forest under Padia police limits in the Left Wing Extremism (LWE)-affected region.
Jawans of the BSF 142 Battalion found five powerful improvised explosive devices (IEDs) during a combing operation in the forest. The IEDs were successfully defused by the bomb disposal squad, averting a major mishap in the district.
