Malkangiri: The exemplary humanitarian service by the jawans of Border Security Force (BSF) in the Maoist prone remote areas of Malkangiri district in Odisha has received widespread acclaim from all quarters across the country.
Sources said Rukuna Kanchai, a 19-year-old woman of Janatapai village under Papermetla Police Station limits in the cut-off areas of Malkangiri district gave birth to a male child at the Badapada Primary Health Centre (PHC) in the early morning hours on Saturday.
But as the condition of the woman became critical soon after the delivery, the nursing assistant of Badapada CHC referred her to the Community Health Centre (CHC) at Chitrakonda.
Since the only way to reach Chitrakonda is to cross the Gurupriya river, the Badapada PHC authorities requested the BSF personnel at the company operated base (COB), about 2 km from the PHC, to help the postnatal mother.
Acting on the request, some BSF jawans from the COB (company operated base), Badapada led by Assistant Commandant Sandip Kumar Gupta and Assistant Commandant Sushil Singh of the Janbai BSF security camp rushed to the PHC and took the woman in a stretcher and carried her to the Chitrakonda CHC in a power boat.
“The condition of the woman and her son at the Chitrakonda CHC is stable”, said BSF DIG, JC Nayak.
The timely action of the BSF jawans in saving the life of a woman has been highly appreciated not only by the tribals of Malkangiri district but also from several quarters across Odisha and the country.
