Bhubaneswar: A major tragedy was averted as two powerful Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) hidden by Maoists were recovered by the Border Security Force (BSF) personnel in Machhkund area of Odisha’s Koraput district on Thursday.
Sources said an operation was launched following credible information received from BSF intelligence branch.
The operation was initiated from COB Ankadeli, 65 Battalion, targeting the general area of village Kadamguda under Machhkund Police Station in Koraput (Odisha).
A contingent comprising BSF troops and the Bomb Disposal Team was dispatched to the designated area to conduct a thorough search operation in the forest terrain.
During this meticulous search, two powerful IEDs were discovered, concealed within the forest area. The Bomb Disposal Team was promptly alerted, and the IEDs were expertly dismantled, neutralising a significant threat.
This operation marks a substantial victory for the BSF and a devastating blow to Naxal insurgents, BSF said in a statement.
The timely intervention not only safeguarded the community but also prevented a potentially calamitous incident, it said.
