BTech Degree Holders Cannot Apply For JE Posts In Odisha, Rules High Court

Cuttack: The Orissa High Court has ruled that a candidate with an BTech engineering degree cannot apply or participate in the selection process for the post of Junior Engineer (JE) in different government departments.

The candidates need to have a Diploma in Engineering in order to be eligible for JE posts, the HC ruled, while upholding the verdict of a single judge. The Court dismissed a batch of petitions seeking intervention against diplomas as the required qualification for JE posts.

The single judge gave the ruling on December 3 last year while dismissing a batch of petitions seeking intervention against fixing of diploma as the required qualification to apply for the posts of junior engineer.

The petitions were filed by candidates with BTech after the Orissa Staff Selection Commission (OSSC) issued an advertisement in December 2023 for the Combined Technical Services Recruitment Examination, 2023 for appointment to the posts of junior engineer.

Subsequently, some candidates with BTech filed appeals challenging the verdict of the single judge.
