Rourkela: Police arrested a BTech-degree holder on Saturday for allegedly looting around Rs 34 lakh from four ATMs in Rourkela.
The accused was identified as Harishchandra Dash.
Police said Harishchandra was working in a security agency, Rights Private Limited. On behalf of the company, he and some colleagues were engaged in refilling ATMs at Sector 19, Sector 7 and Chhend areas in the city.
Somehow, the accused managed to get the passwords of his colleagues. Then using his own password and that of his colleagues, he had withdrawn Rs 34 lakh from the ATMs of some banks in the past one year.
During audit, the banks’ authorities came to know about the shortage of money and registered complaints in several police stations.
After investigation, police arrested Harishchandra. However, police did not find any money in his account. He later confessed that he had invested the money in some ventures.
Harishchandra will be forwarded to court and police will seek his custody for further interrogation, Rourkela SP Mukesh Kumar Bhamu said.
