Cuttack: A BTech student died after drowning in Mahanadi river near Tulasipur area of Odisha’s Cuttack city on Sunday.
The youth, identified as Rupak Banerjee, was taking a bath at Hatigada ghat of river Mahanadi near Tulasipur during the 10th-day (Dasah) ritual of his grandfather when the mishap took place.
The deceased youth was a 22-year-old BTech student in a private college. Rupak belonged to Sector 6 of CDA in the city.
Sources said that the youth was swept away by the river water when he was taking a bath and he went missing leading to his death. The youth could not be saved despite attempts.
On being informed, fire services personnel rushed to the spot and launched a search operation. After striving for more than an hour, Rupak was traced and fished out of the river water. He was taken to SCB Medical College and Hospital (SCBMCH) in Cuttack where doctors declared the youth dead.
