Balangir: An 18-year-old girl, who was preparing for medical entrance examination, reportedly committed suicide in Tikrapada village of Odisha’s Balangir district earlier this week following the death of her father due to COVID-19.
Jaynarayan Satpathy, who worked at Balangir’s Ordnance Factory, tested positive for coronavirus over two months ago. He was shifted to a Bhubaneswar hospital but succumbed to the virus on September 20.
Jaynarayan’s death shattered the family, with only daughter Rituparna being the most affected. Having passed her Class XII board examination earlier this year, she aspired to be a doctor. She dreamt of fulfilling his father’s dream and was absolutely shattered by his sudden death.
She went into depression and trauma, and ultimately took her own life as she wanted to meet his father in ‘after life’, according to family members. She was found hanging in her study room on November 11.
