Balasore: Unidentified miscreants looted donation boxes, ornaments and other valuables from four temples at Sabira village under Soro police limits in Balasore district late on Wednesday.
According to sources, a group of miscreants entered Radha Krishna temple, Hanuman temple, Jagulei temple and Patrasuni temple in the locality and decamped with gold and silver ornaments and cash stashed inside the donation boxes (hundis) of the temples.
The matter came to light after a priest opened the gate of Radhakrishna temple and found the lock of the main door broken and the crown, chita and several other items missing. Later, the empty donation boxes were also found lying in a field near the village.
A complaint has been lodged in this regard by the temple authorities at Soro police station.
These incident come close on the heels of a temple loot in Nabarangpur district, where miscreant decamped with gold ornaments worth lakhs from Laxmi temple late on Monday. The loot, however, was captured on the CCTV camera installed in the temple.
In February, thieves had looted cash from the donation box of Ladu Baba temple in Nayagarh district.
A month earlier, idols, ornaments and cash worth over Rs 2 lakh were stolen from the famous Nrusinghanath temple at Rendhakhol village under Brahmagiri block in Puri district.
