Berhampur: In a major burglary in the city, miscreants decamped with gold jewellery weighing 2.8 kg worth Rs 1.30 crore from ‘Vindo Jewellers’ at Bada Bazaar, here late Friday night.
Prasanth Bhupati, IIC of Bada Bazar police station said the thieves entered the jewellery showroom from the second floor. They came to the ground floor by breaking a door on the first floor.
They tried to break open the iron chest in the showroom but failed. However, they might have taken away some jewellery from the shop. Though the owner of ‘Vinod Jewellers’ Jami Ravikumar has handed over the CCTV footage to police, nothing is visible in the footage due to darkness.
However, further investigating is going on into the case and nobody has been arrested so far, said the IIC. According to the shop owners’ claim, jewellery weighing about 2.8 kg has been stolen, he added.
Meanwhile, Ravikumar said he had closed the shop at 8.30 pm on Friday and noticed the burglary when he opened the shop at around 11 am on Saturday and informed the police. “I suspect two to three thieves entered my shop between 3 am and 4 am”, he said.
