Koraput: A bus carrying senior citizens to board train to go on pilgrimage crashed into a library in Odisha’s Koraput district on Saturday.
As per reports, 210 senior citizens of the district had registered to go on pilgrimage under the state government’s “Baristha Nagarika Tirtha Yatra Yojana”. They were supposed to board the train from Rayagada railway station.
The district administration had arranged three private buses to take them to the station on Saturday evening. Two buses with the pilgrims left Sanskruti Bhawan in Koraput town while another waited for the rest passengers.
After all the registered senior citizens boarded the third bus, it left the place. After going for some distance, the bus driver found that the brakes were not working. Even as the bus picked up speed, the driver could not stop it and the vehicle crashed into Biju Library.
While a wall of the library collapsed on the impact, one person was injured in the accident and others managed to escape.
On being informed, a team from Koraput Town police station went to the accident spot and started investigation to confirm whether the bus brakes had failed or it was a sabotage.
