Sambalpur: Train services were affected after a passenger bus met an accident close to railway tracks near Laxmidunguri area in Odisha’s Sambalpur district early on Saturday.
The bus, en route to Bargarh from Bhubaneswar, halted very close to the railway tracks, which runs parallel to the highway, after hitting a barricade. Luckily, there was no train movement on the track at the time of the accident, which is why a major mishap could be averted. Sources said that a freight train had passed on the railway track, 10 second before the crash.
“We came to know about the incident at 6 am. A person informed our staff and we rushed to the spot and halted a good trains. The bus passengers had already left the spot when we reached here,” said a railway staffer.
The train traffic resumed after the bus was removed from the railway track with the help of a crane. The GRP and Khetarajpur police have initiated a probe.
