Kalahandi: Protesters burned tyres and staged a road blockade near Dharmagarh in Kalahandi district after a 12-year-old boy was run over by a speeding truck on NH-26 on Sunday morning.
According to sources, the mishap took place when Dharmananda Bagarti, a student of Class 8, was en route to his tuition class. A private bus hit him and the boy died on the spot. The bus driver fled from the spot.
The accident triggered a road blockade by angry locals, who also demanded compensation to the boy’s family and immediate arrest of the bus driver.
Police later reached the spot and brought the situation under control.
