Bhubaneswar: Taking note of the constant rise in fuel prices, the Odisha government on Wednesday effected a steep hike in the fares for all categories of buses under the automatic fare adjustment mechanism for the second time this year.
According to a notification issued by the Commerce and Transport Department, the fares of ordinary and express buses have been increased by 6 paise and 7 paise per km respectively, the deluxe and AC deluxe buses will be dearer by 2 paise and 8 paise per km respectively.
The fare for the ordinary bus will now be 80p/km as against 74p/km and the fare for the express bus will be 84p/km instead of 77p/km.
Besides, deluxe category buses will now charge Rs 1.11/km as against Rs 1.09/km while passengers travelling in AC deluxe buses will have to pay Rs 1.39/km as against the earlier Rs 1.31/km, the notification added.
The department had earlier hiked the bus fare on January 20.
