Bus Ferrying ‘Baraatis’ Fined Rs 3.70 Lakh In Odisha For MV Norms Violation

Sundargarh: A bus ferrying ‘Baraatis’ (groomsmen) from Jharkhand was slapped a fine of Rs 3.70 lakh in Odisha’s Sundargarh district for violating various norms under the amended Motor Vehicles (MV) Act.

According to sources, the vehicle was detained during a routine inspection near Karimdiha, while it was on its way back to Bonai in Sundargarh district from Kurdeg in Jharkhand, by a team of Sundargarh Transport office led by Inspector Jitendra Kumar Murmu last night. The driver failed to produce valid documents, including the vehicle’s permit, fitness certificate, registration certificate, insurance and pollution under control certificate.

According to the challan, the tax of the vehicle too had expired in 2021.

The fine was slapped for flouting the Motor Vehicles norms and the tax and penalty alone amounted to Rs 3,42,672.

On Thursday, a school bus was seized near Damana Square in Bhubaneswar and slapped a whopping penalty of over Rs 2.33 lakh for flouting the norms.

On the first day of the week-long special drive by the State Transport Authority to check the safety parameters of the vehicles transporting students to schools, a fine of Rs 4 lakh was imposed on a bus in Koraput district on Wednesday.
