Puri: A bus that had come with devotees from Madhya Pradesh caught fire while it was parked near a temple in Odisha’s Puri district on Monday.
According to sources, the bus carrying more than 50 passengers had left Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh on a pilgrimage tour. After travelling to Kathmandu, Ayodhya, Chitrakut and Satyabadi, the bus had arrived at Sakhigopal in Puri district on Monday morning.
After the driver of the bus parked the vehicle behind the temple, the passengers went came out of it. While some of them went to take bath and visit the temple, others started cooking behind the bus. Suddenly, heavy smoke came out of the bus and in no time, it caught fire.
The driver, who was sleeping inside the bus at the time, managed to escape. He suspected that the nus might have caught fire due to short circuit in electrical wiring in the bus, the sources said.
On being informed, the Fire Brigade from Sakhigopal town rushed to the spot and extinguished the fire. But by the time the entire bus had been burnt. Though nobody was injured in the incident, all the belongings of the passengers including luggage, cash, jewellery, mobile phones and precious materials were destroyed in the fire, the sources added.
