Kendrapada: A businessman was critically injured after being attacked by unidentified masked miscreants during an extortion bid in Odisha’s Kendrapada district.
As per preliminary reports, the incident took place when the businessman was sitting at the cash counter of his garments store. The miscreants suddenly stormed the site and attacked him with wooden sticks. They also vandalised the store before leaving.
The garment shop owner, identified as Mir Khadim, sustained grievous injuries in the attack.
Based on a complaint by the family members of the victim, police registered a case and launched a probe into the incident. While one of the accused has reportedly been detained, efforts are on to nab the rest of the attackers.
Sources said the attackers had earlier made threatening calls to the businessman and demanded Rs 10 lakh from him. After he refused to give them the extortion money, they mounted an attack on him.
