Bhubaneswar: A businessman was burnt to death in a major fire in his garments shop at Jatni in Odisha’s Khurda district on Friday.
According to sources, the locals saw heavy smoke coming out of the garments shop of the trader, Surya Mohapatra, at Taja Bazaar in Jatni town in the afternoon and informed the Fire Brigade.
By the time the Fire services personnel arrived there, the blaze had engulfed the entire shop. It took them several hours to bring the raging fire under control.
After the fire was doused, the personnel entered the shop and found Mohapatra unconscious and in a critical condition. They rushed him to a hospital in Bhubaneswar. But the businessman succumbed during the treatment in the hospital, the sources said.
The police have registered a case and started investigation into the fire incident. But the cause of the fire has not been ascertained. The garments worth lakhs of rupees were stated to have burnt in the massive fire, the sources said.
