Cuttack: The body of businessman was found floating in a canal in Salipur area of Odisha’s Cuttack district under mysterious conditions on Sunday.
Some locals spotted the body floating in Janhia-Ramakrushnapur irrigation canal at Balasahi under the jurisdiction of Salipur police station.
The deceased was identified as Dolagobinda Das (59) of Matkatapur village under Nischintakoili tehsil in the district.
According to sources, Das was a local trader of wood and construction materials like iron rods, metal chips and cement.
After dinner on Saturday night, he had gone to his business establishment at Janhia and his body was found this morning with injury marks on his head, mouth, nose and ears.
On being informed, a team of police personnel visited the spot and launched an investigation into the incident. Police sent the body to the community health centre (CHC) in Nischintakoili for postmortem.
The family members of Das alleged that he has been murdered by some miscreants who dumped the body in the canal.
