Koraput: A businessman was allegedly kidnapped by dacoits near Kolab bridge under Boipariguda police limits in Odisha’s Koraput district on Saturday night.
The victims has been identified as K Satya of Padua village.
According to sources, the incident took place when Satya, a wholesaler of dry fruits and nuts, was returning home in a car from Jepore with cash amounting to Rs 7.5 lakh, last night. A group of unidentified miscreants abducted him after intercepting his vehicle on a deserted stretch near the bridge.
His family lodged a missing complaint with local police when they failed to contact him. This morning, locals found the abandoned vehicle and informed authorities about it.
Meanwhile, his family members got a call from Satya late this morning and he informed them that he was being held hostage at a place in Malangiri’s Motu. They, however, could not contact him thereafter.
The kidnappers have neither contacted the businessman’s family nor made any ransom demand, according to family sources.
Boipariguda police have initiated a probe and are tracking Satya’s mobile phone to locate him.
