Anugola: A 35-year-old man was allegedly shot dead by a neighbour at Nimchhak in Bantala area of Odisha’s Anugola district.
The deceased was identified as Susanta Pradhan, a businessman of Bantala village.
According to preliminary information, the firing was done from a licensed gun belonging to a retired defence personnel. The incident took place on Tuesday evening.
Sources said Susanta he had an altercation with a from the his village. When the verbal duel escalated,, he was shot in the chest. He was rushed to Bantala Community Health Centre (CHC), where doctors declared him dead. However, the assailant fled the spot after dropping the gun.
The seized gun is reported to be of a retired army personnel from Bantala village. Police have seized the weapon and started a probe from various angles.
Police said preliminary investigation suggests the firing took place following a minor argument. Senior police officials have visited the spot to take stock of the situation.
Investigation is in progress and efforts are on to trace and apprehend the absconding suspect.
